Technical Help

The Playground site and your computer

The Playground site has been designed to be compatible with as many different web browsers and computers as possible. But if you are having problems, then you've come to the right place!

If you are experiencing difficulty viewing ABC Playground content, you might not have the correct software installed.

Browser

This site requires a recent browser. For example: if you're still using Internet Explorer 5 or lower we highly recommend updating your browser.

Browsers are free and easy to update:

Firefox
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Internet Explorer
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/default.mspx
Safari
http://www.apple.com/safari/

If you don’t know which version of browser you are using:

PC users, click on the Help menu of their browser, then select the very bottom item, which should be 'About [browser name]...'

Mac users, while using your browser, click on the Apple Menu at the top left of the screen and select the top item, which should be 'About [browser name]...'

Plug-ins

The Playground uses two main technologies. The players of these technologies can be downloaded free of charge.

For all games, animation and video you will need the Flash Player 9 which is the current industry standard player. We strongly recommend you downloading this player if you don’t already have it on your computer. It is free and easy to download:

For the print and play areas across ABC Kids sites, you may need to download the latest PDF reader.

For some of the older games you will need additional players, this will be clearly indicated in the help sections of those games. All of our new games are designed for the same player, so in the future you won’t need to do this anymore.

If you are using a computer at school, check with your teacher before downloading a piece of software. If the computer you are using doesn't belong just to you, then you must check with the person who owns the computer first.

This site was designed for moderate internet speeds and is best viewed on a broadband connection. Dial-up internet users may experience difficulty in viewing some areas of Playground. We apologise is this is problematic for some of our users, but it is the only way to allow The Playground World of Ruby, Zip and Rolo, Artie and Spanna to be fully animated and jam-packed of sounds and music.
