Organisers of the Blue Surf Red Dust music festival are holding the all-day community event as prelude to a planned road trip to the New South Wales outback town of Nymagee in November.
Sitting on the edge of the Tanami Desert, 300 kilometres north west of Alice Springs, the remote community of Yuendumu is one of the largest Aboriginal communities in central Australia.
In 1955 Leo Corbet teamed up with Victorian sculptor William Ricketts to create the Pitchi Richi sculpture sanctuary. The sculptures reach out of the ground like red termite mounds, surrounded by artefacts from the early missionary period when Central Australia was opened up by camel and wagon.
