Police chief, shires to discuss station closures

Posted August 13, 2008 12:11:00

Western Australian Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan has promised to reveal within a month whether he will reopen a number of country police stations.

One and two officer stations in Cranbrook, Wickepin, Dumbleyung, Trayning, Gascoyne Junction and Menzies were closed in July last year.

Commissioner O'Callaghan says a 12 month review of the closures has been completed and he now plans to discuss the report with the shires affected.

He would not reveal the contents of the report, but says it was completed by the police service and an independent reviewer.

"We're going to go back and talk to the local government fairly shortly," he said.

"We're about to send them the review report and give them a chance to look at that."
