Hope for Quickup Dam level to keep rising

Posted August 15, 2008 12:42:00

The Water Corporation is hoping the Quickup Dam in Denmark will reach at least 50 per cent capacity by summer.

Last year, the dam, Denmark's main source of drinking water, hit its lowest level on record at just one quarter full at the end of winter.

But in the past two months, the dam has risen to 40 per cent capacity, the highest it has been in more than a year.

David Hughes-Owen from the Water Corporation says he hopes the heavy rainfall will continue and boost the water levels even higher.

"That'll put us in a situation where we're in a much better situation than where were this time last year," he said.

The corporation will continue tapping the Denmark River to supplement the town's water supplies over summer.
