Care to suffer under mental health plan: nurses
Posted
The New South Wales Nurses Association will start a community campaign aimed at stopping plans to replace mental health nurse managers in the Illawarra with non-clinical staff.
The association says the South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra Health Service wants to reclassify the positions which head the Wollongong, Lake Illawarra and Nowra community mental health teams.
The association's team manager, Lisa Kremmer, says the decision betrays people with mental health problems.
"If the majority of nurses working in those community mental health services don't have access to a manager with clinical experience and qualifications, they're concerned about the impact on care for the clients," she said.
